The effect of the nature of magnesium salts and a silica-containing component on the synthesis and properties of forsterite powder obtained by the sol-gel method has been studied. It was found that the use of magnesium acetate significantly reduces the temperature of the onset of forsterite formation, and it is preferable to use amorphous types of silica as the silica-containing component.
