Initial substances for the subsequent synthesis of aluminum-magnesium spinel were obtained by the method of hydroxide precipitation. With the help of IRS and XRD methods, the processes of interaction of the obtained substances, phase transitions and structure formation of aluminum spinels under thermal action are investigated. It was found that the formation of spinel occurs through an intermediate phase - crystalline hydrate Mg5Al4O11x; 15H2O, which during heat treatment turns into aluminum-magnesium spinel. With an increase in temperature, its structure is improved and the amount increases significantly. The formation of the phase practically ends at a temperature of 1300 - 1350 ° C.
