The sintering of corundum by the liquid-recrystallization mechanism with the introduction of additives of borosilicate glasses of eutectic composition is investigated. The comparative efficiency of floating additives has been determined. The structure of the melts has been studied. A chemical factor affecting sintering has been identified, and ratios for a quantitative assessment of this effect have been proposed. Tab. 4, ill. 2, bibliography: 15 titles.
