The current level of knowledge about biomaterials and bioceramics based on calcium orthophosphates is shown. These chemical compounds are of particular importance, since it is from them that the inorganic constituent of both normal and pathological hard tissues of humans and mammals consists. Due to their great chemical similarity with mammalian solid tissues, many calcium orthophosphates have exceptional biocompatibility and bioactivity. These material properties are actively used in the development of artificial bone implants. Tab. 2, ill. 1, bibliography: 22 titles.
