The effect of the float-side location on the sheet glass strength upon bending

It was found that the transverse bending strength of float glass sheet depends on the location of the float side relative to the applied load. If, when bent, the side in contact with the tin (float side) is in the tension zone, then the strength of the glass is reduced by an average of 40% compared to the strength when the float side is in the compression zone.
