Sol-gel coatings on the float-glass

The refractive indices and thickness of double-sided sol-gel coatings of different compositions, applied by dipping onto float glass sheets, have been measured. It was found that the refractive index on the upper side of the sample, which was in contact with the protective atmosphere of the melt pool during the production of glass, is greater, and the film thickness is less than on the lower one. This is due to the difference in the properties of the opposite sides of thermally polished glass and is associated with a different concentration of tin in the surface layers.
