The possibility of replacing quartz sand when cooking an enamel frit with natural diatomite rock has been investigated. It has been established that the use of local diatomite as a silicate raw material for cooking enamel frits is a promising trend in enameling technology. The properties of frits obtained on the basis of diatomite raw materials are similar to the properties of the reference low-melting frit F-1, have slightly lower cooking and softening temperatures, and their technological characteristics are within the limits regulated by GOST 24405--80 for ground enamels on steel.
