The relevance of the study of heat and mass transfer in a glass-making furnace with a horseshoe-shaped flame direction has been substantiated. The basic requirements for the rational length of the torch in furnaces of this type are formulated. The necessity of joint solution of external and internal problems of heat transfer is shown. The results of calculating the temperatures of the gaseous medium, the surfaces of the vault and the molten glass, depending on the length of the torch are presented. It has been established that, according to the set of conditions, the rational length of the torch can be taken equal to the length of the furnace. In this case, the length of the zone of intense combustion (visible part of the flame) is approximately 0.7 of the length of the furnace. Tab. 1, ill. 3, bibliography: 9 titles.
