An approach to determining the thermal stability of structural ceramics by thermal cycling of specimens with a special notch is considered. Characteristics of thermal shock resistance are proposed: the magnitude of the loss of crack resistance after thermal shock, the insensitivity of the material structure to defects formed at the apex of the notch as a result of thermal shock, and the degree of their accumulation at the apex of the notch. The test results are given for ceramics made of Al 2 O 3 , ZrO 2 , partially stabilized with Y 2 O 3 (molar fraction 3%), and cermet ZrO 2 -Y 2 O 3 (molar fraction 3%) with the addition of metallic chromium (volume fraction 50%). Tab. 3, ill. 6, bibliography: 10 titles.
The composition of a low-melting jade glaze based on a silica-containing rock - diatomite and a technology for applying glaze to building ceramics have been developed. The elimination of the fritting process of the glaze melt can significantly reduce energy costs. Tab. 1, ill. 1, bibliography: 1 titles.
The possibility of using chromium-containing waste from electroplating industries for the preparation of colored glazes is considered. Bibliography: 5 titles.
An original pilot plant for filters made of porous metals has been developed and implemented at the plant. The diagram and description of the installation, the principle of its operation are given. Practical recommendations are given. Tab. 1, ill. 2.
Complex chromium-containing oxides - chromium orthoborate and chromium (II) silicate - are synthesized in the combustion mode in one stage using solid oxidants. Tab. 1, ill. 4, bibliography: 5 titles.
The results of X-ray studies of shock-wave action on zincite and aluminum are presented. It was found that this results in the formation of aluminum oxide with a spinel structure (a = 7.953 E), zinc and zinc oxide with a cubic structure of the NaCl type (a = 4.265 E). 1, ill. 1, bibliography: 3 titles.
The texture and chemical compositions of some basalts of the European North of Russia have been investigated. Modules of density and viscosity are estimated. The possibility of obtaining thin staple and continuous basalt fibers is shown. Technological schemes for the manufacture of materials based on such fibers are considered. Comparative characteristics of various types of fibers and products made from them are given. The financial and economic indicators of the organization of production of basalt fibers and related products are presented. Tab. 3, ill. 4.
The use of pure aluminum oxide for medical purposes is considered. The main properties of corundum ceramics are presented. Tab. 3, bibliography: 11 titles.
The processes of phase formation at all stages of the synthesis of glass-crystalline glaze coatings for ceramics, obtained by the method of directional crystallization of b-spodumene, diopside and ganite, have been investigated. A mechanism for the simultaneous crystallization of a complex of specified phases has been established, the use of which makes it possible to obtain low-melting sitallized glazes with high performance under the conditions of high-speed modes of low-temperature firing. Il. 3, bibliography: 4 titles.
